Finally, we were able to resume our annual internal SGF Challenge after not being able to host due to Covid-19 Regulations last year.

Representing SGF we have Jonas Lim Yet Thye (Gold), Javian Choong (Silver), Matthew Pang (5th), Emmett Wong (6th), Andrew Low (11th), John Zhang (15th) and Trevor Kuok (18th).


An amazing day of fencing from our boys, taking 4 out of 8 places in the Top 8!


In the pools stage, Matthew, Emmett and Yet Thye won all their bouts in the pools, to be ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively after pools. Javian won 4 out of 5 of his bouts in pools, Andrew won 2 out of 4 of his bouts, John and Trevor won 1 bout in their pools.


Matthew won his Table of 16: 15-7, before finishing 5th overall. Emmett won his Table of 16: 15-13, before finishing 6th. Andrew bye into the Table of 16, where he finished 11th. Teammates John and Yet Thye met in the Table of 16, and it was Yet Thye who progressed into the next round after an intense 15-14 bout.


Javian won his Table of 16: 15-12, progressing into the Quarter-Finals where he held his own and earned his spot in the Top 4 with a win of 15-13. Javian upseeded rank 1 in the Semi Finals, 15-10, where he deservingly earn himself a place in the Finals.


After a nail biting Quarter-Finals, Yet Thye progressed into the Top 4 with a 9-7 win. He continued his streak in the Semi Finals with a 15-8 victory, where he eventually met teammate Javian in the Finals.

Representing SGF we have Ona Koning (Silver), Ashley Mae Harrison (Bronze), Denise Seah (6th), Choong Zi Cheng (10th), Wong Shi Xuan (11th), Lauren Leow (12th) and Glynnis Tay (17th).


In the pools stage Ona won all the bouts and was ranked 2nd after pools. Zi Cheng won 4 out of 5 bouts in her pools. Lauren, Denise and Shi Xuan won 3 out of 5 bouts in their pools, Glynnis won 2 out of 5 bouts, and Ashley won 3 out of 4 bouts in her pools.


13 year old Ashley did not let the fact that she was youngest in the competition deter her, from a strong showing in pools, she earned a bye into the round of 16, where she won 15-12 and progressed into the Quarter-Finals. Ashley proved that she is the one of the upcoming to look out for, as she handled her Quarter-Finals with maturity beyond her age. Trailing 2 points and with 30 seconds before the end of the bout, Ashley equalized the score, and scored the final hit to seal her place in the Semi Finals, winning the Bronze Medal at 13 years old!


Ona dominated her Table of 16 and Quarter-Finals 15-7 and 15-4, where she met teammate Ashley and progressed into the Finals after a 15-13 bout, winning the Silver Medal!
