Bronze for Zi Cheng in the Singapore Junior (Under 20) Nationals 2021!

Representing SGF we have Choong Zi Cheng (Bronze), Ona Koning (5th), Ashley Mae Harrison (10th), Denise Seah (15th), Wong Shi Xuan (16th), Sylvia Lee (18th), Lauren Leow (19th) and Glynnis Tay (22nd).

In the pools stage, Ona won all her bouts convincingly and was ranked 1 after pools. Zi Cheng won 4 out of 5 of her bouts and Ashley won 3 out of 5 of her bouts. Lauren, Denise and Sylvia won 2 bouts, Shi Xuan and Glynnis won 1 bout.

Ona earned a bye into the Table of 16, where she won 15-11, before finishing in the Quarters with a 5th overall placing. Another great performance from 13 year old Ashley, who finished 10th after a close 12-8 bout in the Table of 16. Shi Xuan upseeded ranked 13 in the Table of 32 15-4, where she finished 16th.

Teammates Denise and Sylvia met in the Table of 32, and Denise progressed into the Table of 16 where she met teammate Zi Cheng, finishing 15th overall.

Zi Cheng went on to win her Quarter-Finals convincingly 15-6, winning a Bronze Medal in the Women's Epee Individual Event!

Bronze for 14 year old Matthew in the Singapore Junior (Under 20) Nationals 2021!

Representing SGF we have Matthew Pang (Bronze), Ryan Tan (9th), Elson Tan (10th), Jonas Chan Ze Xian (12th), Julien Lim (15th), Jacob Lim (16th), Tyler Chan (23rd), Jonas Lim Yet Thye (24th), Gong Zekai (28th), Emmett Wong (30th), Javian Choong (32nd), John Zhang (33rd) and Andrew Low (34th).

In the pools stage, Ryan Tan and Elson Tan won all their bouts to be placed 1st and 2nd after pools. Ryan earned a bye into the Table of 16 where he finished 9th. Elson also earned a bye into the Table of 16, where he finished 10th. Ze Xian also did well in pools, winning 5 out of 6 of his bouts, and was ranked 8th after pools. He won his Table of 32: 15-10, before narrowly losing out a spot in the Quarter-Finals 13-14.

Great effort from 13 year old Yet Thye qualified into the Direct Elimination round after winning 2 bouts in his pools. Matthew, Julien, Tyler and Jacob qualified for the Direct Elimination with 2 wins in pools. Julien upseeded ranked 13 in his Table of 32, before finishing 15th. An intense bout for Tyler in the Table of 32 where he lost 11-12. Jacob upseeded ranked 11 in 32 and finished 16th overall.

Matthew upseeded ranked 10, with a score of 15-9 to progress into the Tabele of 16, where he fought a nail biting bout emerging 15-14 into the Quarter-Finals. Matthew earned a place in the Semis convincingly with a 15-8 win in the Quarter-Finals. 14 year old Matthew won the Bronze Medal in the Men's Epee Individual Event!

5th and 6th from our girls in the Singapore Senior (Open) Nationals 2021!

Representing SGF are Ona Koning (5th), Choong Zi Cheng (6th), Denise Seah (16th), Ennabelle Tan (21st), Sherilyn Phua (22nd), Ashley Mae Harrison (23rd), Wong Shi Xuan (26th) and Lauren Leow (27th).

Progress is not determined solely on outcome, many of you displayed some really great fencing today! Continue working hard and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for all of you!
