The National School Games 2017 was held from the 20th- 24th of March and many of our fencers have done well!

On the first day, we had the B Division Girl's Epee Individual event where Wong J-min (NYG) and Qu Yu Chen, Sherry (BNS) both finished in the Top 8 with a respectable position of 7th and 8th respectively!

On the second day, we had the B Division Boy's Epee Individual event and B Division Girl's Sabre Individual event. For the Boy's Epee Individual event, Brandan Goh Zhuo Rui (MSH) fought his way into the finals earning himself a silver medal! Honourable mention to Daryl Ng Jing Jun (SGS) for finishing in 5th place! For the B Division Girl's Sabre Individual event, Christine Tan (NUS) managed to top the entire competition in a convincing way becoming the B Division Girl's Sabre individual champion!

On the third day, we had both the B and C Division Boy's Sabre Individual event. In the B Division, 3 out of the Top 8 fencers are from SGF! Winning the entire event was Joey See Zhuo Yi (HCI) who fenced his way into the finals displaying resilience and determination. Schoolmate Bradley Goh Jun Rui (HCI) fenced his best as well and deservingly earned himself a bronze medal. Special mention goes out to Jarvis Chua (HCI) who narrowly missed out on a medal finishing in a respectable 5th position! In the C Division Boy's Sabre, we have Edward Fox who finished in the Top 8 in 7th position!

On the fourth day, we had the A Division Boy's Epee, Boy's Sabre and Girl's Foil Individual events. For Boy's Epee, we have Alasdair Low (ACS I) who showed sheer will and determination to earn himself a place in the finals where he narrowly missed out on the Gold! Good job as well to Jaren Ng Teck Leng (MJC) who started strong from the start, being ranked 1st after the poules and eventually finishing 5th overall! For Boy's Sabre, Jorelle See Zhuo Rui (HCI) fenced his way into the semi-finals earning a joint-bronze! For Girl's Foil, Cymbeline Tan Zheng Yi (MJC) finished in the Top 8 with a placing of 8th! What is amazing is that Cymbeline is not a foilest as such to finish in the Top 8 in the Girl's foil event is a remarkable feat!

On the final day of the National School Games, we had the A Division Girl's Epee, Girl's Sabre event. In Girl's Epee, we have Cymbeline Tan Zheng Yi (MJC) back again in her main weapon and she did not fall short in terms of results! She managed to win her quarter-final match convincingly with a score of 15-2 but losing narrowly 15-11 to the eventual champion! In the end, she clinched the bronze medal! In the Girl's Sabre event, we have Nicole Goh Li Shayne (RI) who won all her bouts in the poules. This winning streak continued on all the way into the finals where she emerged victorious!

Congratulations to all our SGF fencers! We are so proud of you all!

The Minime Under-10 and Under-12 Fencing Championships were held at the Singapore Sports School on the 12th of March and it was many of our little warriors first time competing.

Congratulations to Victoria Fox who clinched the bronze medal in the Under-12 Girl's Sabre event! She fenced well throughout the entire day and her bronze medal was well-deserved!

Special mention goes out to Coco Gu who finished in the Top 8 in the Under-12 Girl's Epee event as well as all our other brave fencers who had participated in this competition!

Let this competition serve as a motivation for all our fencers!

The Asian Junior Fencing Championships 2017 Women's Epee Individual event saw our very own Esther Lai making history by winning Singapore's very first Asian Junior title! Throughout the direct elimination table, she managed to overcome her higher-ranked opponents all the way into the finals where she faced off with Japan's Miho Yoshimura who was World Junior Rank Number 16. In the finals, Esther controlled the bout throughout and emerged victorious with a convincing score of 15-4!

What an amazing achievement Esther! Congratulations!
