Our little warriors were amazing in the recently concluded Minime Fencing Challenge. Out of our 5 fencers who participated in the competition, it was the first time competing for 3 of them.

On the 5th September morning, our boys started first with their event.

In their respective poules Xu Zirong had 1 victory & 3 defeats, Yu Haoze had 3 victories & 1 defeat and Jonas Lim had 3 victories & 2 defeats.

After poules, Haoze was ranked 6th, Jonas was ranked 13th & Zirong, 18th.

In the round of 32, Jonas won Lucas Wang (ZFF) 8 - 3, before upseeding Azanius Nua (ZFF, Azanius was ranked 4th after poules) 8 – 5 in the round of 16, which guaranteed him a spot in the quarter-finals.

Though Zirong had a rough start in poules, he continued giving his best and upseeded ranked 15th Puniaa Rudraveer from SJI(J) in the round of 32 with a score of 8 – 4.

Haoze had a bye to the round of 16 and met Jayler Lim (PCS) where he won 8 – 4, earning himself a spot in the quarter-finals.

It was our girls turn to compete later in the day. Shen Yuehan fenced well and was the Poule Queen with 4 victories & 1 defeat. Ashley Mae Harrison was also a force to be reckoned with, finishing her poule with 3 victories & 2 defeats.

Our 2 little warriors proved to be the best 2 in their poule, with Yuehan being ranked 1 and Ashley ranked 2 after poule. They both successfully were guaranteed at least a Top 4 as they both bypassed into the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Yuehan was up against Rigby Liesel (MDF) and she gave her best till the end, but sadly could not advance into the finals. Ashley was up against Candice Tan (PCS), focused and composed, she won 8-2 which earned her a spot in the finals.

In the finals, Ashley was meeting Rigby Liesel (MDF), Ashley was clear and focused on what was needed to be done and executed it perfectly, finishing the bout 8- 4 in her favour, bringing back the Gold Medal.

It was a successful outing for our little warriors, all of them have shown improvement not only in terms of their fencing, but also in fighting spirit. We can’t be prouder of them!

A short break and back to the grind for everyone!

The Singapore Minime Fencing Challenge 2018 is a great platform for our little warriors as well as our lower-secondary fencers to participate and compete against fencers of the same age group.

In the Under-10 Boy's Epee individual event, both Yu Haoze and Jonas Lim finished in the Top 8 with a final position of fifth and eighth respectively!
